Academy Overview

At Windsor Academy, our goal is to prepare our students for high school, by developing the educational and social skills of each student. The ultimate objective for our students is the successful reintegration into public school. Many Windsor students are able to return to and perform well in their home school district. We offer an extended school year program, providing a structured program through the summer months.

We feature a diverse academics program, including assemblies, seasonal special events, field trips, computer lab instruction with supervised access, speech and language therapy, a structured behavioral management system, and classes in art, music, foreign languages, and physical education. Classrooms feature a certified teacher with at least two classroom aides and twelve or less students in a class. Extracurricular activities include sports and clubs, which give students an opportunity to explore their interests and talents, while learning the fundamentals of teamwork and discipline.

Academics

We provide quality education and build academic achievement and self-esteem in children with a history of under-achievement in school. Windsor Academy also promotes the development of social skills important to the success of each student in the academic community. Small classes allow each student the attention he or she needs, to learn and retain the subject matter. Students will learn to use different tools and strategies to solve problems in all subject areas.

Technology

At Windsor, we believe that technology helps create effective, individualized learning environments for all students. Computers, as well as access to the Internet, help to prepare students for the systems they will encounter in the world and enhance the development of their ability to find, understand, and evaluate information. Our state of the art computer lab is used to assist students in developing learning skills, such as thinking and problem-solving skills, information and communication skills, and interpersonal and self-directional skills. In addition, each of our classrooms is equipped with four computers to help deepen and enhance the learning process.

Every classroom at Windsor is equipped with a Polyvision interactive whiteboard. These whiteboards increase the interactive atmosphere in the classroom which in return enhances the learning experience. The Polyvision boards offer our teachers effective ways to reach different types of learners and assess student understanding through multiple means.

School Facilities

Windsor Academy is surrounded by two acres of pristine landscape that features a playground, basketball court and baseball field. The outdoor facilities are utilized for recess as well as physical education classes. The school also has access to a large gymnasium, library and weight room, conveniently located at our nearby high school campus, Windsor Prep.
