Counseling and Therapies

The Windsor Schools provides counseling and therapies for all students requiring these services.  We have qualified, certified counselors and therapists for the following areas.

Clinical

Our clinical program plays an integral role in the emotional growth of our students. Counseling sessions are used primarily to promote growth in self esteem, enhance problem solving skills, and develop social skills while providing ongoing emotional support. Our goal is to help students gain control over their impulsive behaviors and develop positive strategies for coping with frustrating and difficult situations.

Clinical services at Windsor include:

  • Case management services
  • Psychiatry services, including medication monitoring
  • Individual Counseling Small and Large Group Counseling
  • Social skills training
  • Crisis counseling

Speech

Windsor Academy and Windsor Preparatory High School provide speech therapy for all students whose Individualized Education Plan indicates the necessity for this service. Speech services include therapy for articulation disorders, expressive and receptive language deficits, and fluency and voice disorders. Students are seen both individually and in small group in a private setting by a certified speech pathologist.

Behavioral Modification

The Windsor behavior system is based on the need for each student to achieve his/her maximum social and emotional growth. Through positive reinforcement, our system helps students to become more aware of themselves, develop motivation to change their self-defeating behaviors, and learn better ways to conduct themselves in school. By combining the schools highly structured environment with positive behavior modification, Windsor allows students to know and understand what is expected of them and to achieve greater control over their behaviors.

Our behavior program utilizes different strategies to assist students in making both academic and behavioral changes. These strategies include:

  • A point system to monitor and track behaviors, as well as reward students for academic and behavioral improvements.
  • A level system that affords students the opportunity to earn greater privileges by directly reinforcing positive behaviors and recognizing their success.
  • Weekly visits to the school store where students can redeem “earned points”.

Occupational Therapy

Windsor Academy and Windsor Preparatory High School provide occupational therapy for all students who Individualized Education Plan indicates the necessity for this service. Occupational therapy services promote development of fine motor skills, sensory motor skills, and visual motor skills necessary for students to function in the school environment. Students are seen on a weekly basis in a private setting by a certified occupational therapist.
